31 metric tonnes of solid waste extracted from Kathmandu valley’s rivers

Bagmati cleaning CampaignKathmandu / Feb 17: At least 31 metric tonnes of solid waste have been extracted today as part of Kathmandu valley clean-up campaigns.

Nine metric tonnes of garbage were picked up from Ram Temple area in Pashupati as part of Bagmati Clean-up Mega Campaign that entered the 249th week on Saturday.

The campaign saw the participation of more than 350 people from various walks of life including Narendra Raj Basnet, executive chairman of the High Powered Committee for Integrated Development of the Bagmati Civilization, Nepal Army, police and Armed Police Force personnel.

Likewise, one metric ton of waste was collected from under the bridge in Gothatar under the Guheshwari Bagmati-up Campaign that made it to the 210th week.

One metric ton of solid waste was extracted from Gaushala-Ratopul-Ganeshwor-Kamalpokhari as part of Rudramati Clean-up Campaign that reached the 205th week.

Two metric tonnes of garbage were collected from Tarakeshwor and Tokha Municipality areas under Bishnumati Clean-up Campaign that entered the 176th week.

Similarly, fifteen metric tonnes of waste were picked up from Dhumbarahi Chowk to Chhapal Karkhana as part of Ring Road Clean-up Campaign that made it to the 45th week.

The drive saw participation of more than 500 people from various walks of life including Minister for Population and Environment Lal Babu Pandit.

Addressing the event, Minister Pandit pledged to make the Kathmandu valley as a city where people can walk without wearing human masks. RSS
