New standards for appointment of judges: Law Minister
Kathmandu / Apr 09: Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Sher Bahadur Tamang has said the government is considering setting new standards for the appointment of judges.
Talking to media persons on Monday, Minister Tamang said the appointment of judges even from the political background would be based on their efficiency and seniority. “Individuals contesting in the polls can also be appointed as the judges if they are qualified. But they should work independently after their appointment,” he added.
Minister Tamang also said the new standards will create an environment for the justices to issue verdict freely from their benches.
He added that Corruption Control Act, 2059 and Judicial Council Act would be amended requiring the lawmakers, elected representatives of local levels and judges to make their property details public.
Minister Tamang further said the files of the date of birth of the incumbent judges would be reviewed to do away with the disputes regarding the age of the judges. Sharing his plans, Tamang said the human resources in the judiciary would be increased to provide the detailed text of the verdict within 10 to 15 days.
