Government replaces DEO with EDCU

government logoKathmandu / Apr 12: The government has replaced District Education Office (DEO) with Education Development and Coordination Unit (EDCU) under the federal setup. With this, all DEOs across the country have been phased out automatically.

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology took a decision to this effect. The ministry directed existing Chief Education Officers to take on responsibility as head of the EDCU under the new structure.

A cabinet meeting on Tuesday decided to replace the DEO. EDCU will be operated under the respective District Administration Offices, and it will look after examination procedure of grades eight and 10, keep records of teachers and their pension, among other tasks, said Joint Secretary at the Ministry Baikuntha Aryal.
