Republic Day should be taken to public level: PM

PM OliKathmandu / May 18: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that Republic Day should be taken to public level.

PM Oli, who is also the Chairman of the Republic Day Celebration Main Organising Committee, said so while addressing a programme organised at the Ministry of Home Affairs in the Capital on Friday.

He was of the opinion that Republic Day should be made the festival of people instead of government day.

“Republic Day is not a government day but a people’s day,” PM Oli said, adding, “Arrangement should be made to celebrate this day to the rural municipality level.” He said that there is a need to institutionalise the federal democratic republic gained through a long struggle.

PM Oli said that public holiday of Republic Day has been trimmed to not hamper the official activities.

He said that the way to celebrate the Republic Day at Tundikhel on May 29 should also be changed.
