Govt policies, prgms: Double figure economic growth, double per capita income in 5 years

President AddressingKathmandu / May 21: The government has set a target of graduating the country to the status of middle income within 10 years.

The policies and programmes presented during the joint meet of the federal parliament by President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Monday, mentioned that the government aims to achieve a double figure economic growth in the next five years.

“The government is working to raise the economic growth figures of the nation close to a double figure in the next fiscal, with an aim to gain double figure economic growth in the next five years,” informed President Bhandari.

The policies and programmes of the government also mentioned that the per capita income will be doubled in the next five years.

The government also plans to fulfill its aim for long-term development, end inequality, create equal opportunities for all, among others.

Saying that the nation’s economic condition is passing through a difficult phase, the government has announced that it will take necessary measures to resolve the issue. For that, the President mentioned that the government will commit to various sectors including agriculture, energy, industry and tourism as means for the economic development.

The government’s policies and programmes also include cooperation between governmental, private and cooperatives as the main means for development, building major cities as green cities, conservation of biodiversity and river banks, make effective the President Chure Conservation Programme and provide clean water.

The programme also states that 24-hour uninterrupted electricity will be provided to industries and households by prioritising the construction of transmission line.

The government has prioritized the construction of Kathmandu-tarai expressway, Mid-Hill Highway and Madan Bhandari Highway in its policies and programmes. Also, the government said that it will expedite the process to construct Rasuwagadi-Kathmandu-Pokhara- Lumbini railways.

Furthermore, the government stated that it will expand and develop the information highway at all local levels adding that it will provide all the citizens with National Identity Card.

The government also plans to find out the statistics of budget expenditure adding that the government will not allocate budget to sectors failing to present the results.

Likewise, the government’s policies and programmes highlighted on prioritising financial discipline and mobilisation of internal resources for growth in production by increasing the investment in various sectors.

Similarly, the government has said that it will firmly taken on the issue of money laundering. The government has also announced that it will connect all citizens with financial institution and all transactions shall be made through banks.

Also, the policies and programmes of the government has mentioned that the government will create an environment where people will not have to opt for foreign employment within the next 5 years saying that Prime Minister Employment Programme will be put in place for Nepali youths.

The government has also said that it will arrange for equal work equal pay system and end child labour. www.ekantipur.com
