Possibility of salt mine in Jajarkot

Jajarkot, June 9/ The possibility of a salt mine has been seen at Khara Stream of Barekot Rural Municipality-2 in Jajarkot district.

About 90 per cent salt was found in one litre of water collected from the stream in course of a lab test for sodium chloride (NaCl), conducted at Water Engineering and Training Centre in Kathmandu, informed Ganesh Prasad Singh, Provincial Assembly Member from Jajarkot district.
According to Director-General of the Department of Mines and Geology, Rajendra Prasad Khanal, the course of lab test saw good results. He further said, “A team will be sent to carry out a field study there within a few days. It is necessary for the government to pay attention to take the project forward after carrying out a detailed study of the possible salt mine.”

Mentioning the existence of an iron mine at Barekot, PA member Singh said that they have requested the Department of Mines and Geology for a feasibility study in this regard. He added that the local government has already expressed commitment to provide support for the same. RSS
