Gandaki province government displeased over delay in road construction

Myagdi, July 11: Chief Minister of the Gandaki province Prithvi Subba Gurung has expressed dissatisfaction over the delay in the construction of the Beni-Jomsom-Korala road project.

This road is considered the lifeline of the Gandaki province and is declared a project of national pride. Once completed, it will connect to Korala, the transit point on the Nepal-Tibet border in Mustang.

The Chief Minister expressed the provincial government’s displeasure at the slow pace of the project while speaking at an interaction organised at Galeshwar of Beni municipality here on Tuesday evening, following an onsite inspection of the road improvement works under the project on the Myagdi and Mustang sector.

People’s representatives, the district administrators, security officials and stakeholders were present in the interaction.

The Beni-Jomsom-Korala road is 186 kilometres. Improvement works are ongoing on the 110-kilometres Jomsom-Korala sector since November 2016 and the 76-kilometres Beni-Jomsom sector since July 2017.

The estimated cost of the project is more than Rs 5 billion. The road is significant in terms of promoting trade between Nepal and China and connectivity between Nepal, China and India.

On the occasion, Chief Minister Gurung directed the related officials and entrepreneurs to complete the project on time and also ensure its quality. He also said that he would draw the attention of the federal government towards the delay in the construction of the project. RSS
