Sushila Karki, Baburam Bhattarai, Gagan Thapa discuss Durga Subedi’s Biman Bidroha

Durga Subedi BookSuresh Chaudhary / Kathmandu: Former Chief Justice Sushila Karki, Former Prime Minister and Convener of Naya Shakti Party Baburam Bhattarai, Former Minister and Nepali Congress leader Gagan Thapa attended a book discussion event today to review Biman Bidroha– a political and personal memoir penned down by democratic movement fighter Durga Subedi.

The event was organised by publishers of the book, Kitab Publishers, at Nepal Tourism Board Assembly Hall in Pradarshani Marga, Bhrikutimandap.

At the event, Former Chief Justice Sushila Karki introduced some of the characters from the book who were also present at the programme. Former CJ Karki and Author Subedi are spouses.

Karki said that she and their son encouraged Subedi to come out with this book and how delighted they are now on receiving positive response from all quarters.

Talking about the book, former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai said that the book tries to explain the BP Path or late BP Koirala’s ideologies but he went on to add that he could never understand why BP Koirala wanted a partnership with the monarchy even after a successful execution of a revolution.

Bhattarai said that the book’s title was very apt given that it narrates the story of a political revolution and not a criminal hijack.

Bhattarai further reminisced about meeting the author in New Delhi, India, during his student years.

Stating that there were mostly two kind of politicians that could be found in the party, ones that sell themselves for power and post and the other kind who selflessly work for the party and the country, Thapa said that the author Subedi is the second kind who has never cared for power or ranks.

Author Durga Subedi remarked that he expects the new generation to work together for the welfare of people and the development of the country without any discrimination against or allegiances to any particular party. Courtesy: The Himalayan Times
