PAC asks government to determine price of sugar at Rs 63/kg

Nepal ParliamentKathmandu / Oct 4:The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the House of Representatives has directed the Government of Nepal to determine the price of sugar at Rs 63 per kilogramme.

At the meeting of the PAC held today, lawmakers urged the government to interfere in the market, saying price of daily essentials including sugar, lentils, oil, vegetables as well as petroleum products has risen just ahead of the festivals.

The committee also formed a sub-committee to carry out study regarding price hike and shortage of daily essentials including sugar.

The sub-committee will be coordinated by lawmaker Lekhraj Bhatta where Pradeep Yadav, Parbata DC Chaudhary, Prem Ale and Chanda Chaudhary are members. The sub-committee will submit its report to the Committee within a week.

They expressed concern over government’s failure to carry out effective monitoring of the market at a time when price of most of the essentials has increased.

PAC President Bharat Kumar Shah and members Chanda Chaudhary, Parbata DC Chaudhary, Parbati Kumari Bisankhe drew government’s attention over different issues including price hike.
