Dr KC puts off hunger strike till Jan 9

Dr-Govinda-KC-hunger-strike-threatKathmandu / Jan 2: Senior orthopedic surgeon at the Maharajgunj-based Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) Dr Govinda KC has decided to put off his hunger-strike until Jan 9.

There were speculations that he would announce a fresh hunger strike, his 16th, today, given that today marked the last day of his ultimatum to the government to honour the nine-point agreement signed between Dr KC and the government representatives on July 26, 2018.

Dr KC decided to postpone the strike following a request from the Parliament’s Education and Health Committee Chairman, Jayapuri Gharti Magar, to withhold his decision. Lawmaker Gharti asked for sometime to discuss matters pertaining to the Medical Education Bill while expressing commitment to fully honour the agreement.

KC had reached Ilam district on Tuesday, apparently in a bid to announce his next fast unto death and to commence the same.
