Lawmakers call for forming commission to fix price of agro-products

Kathmandu / Mar 7: Lawmakers have voiced for forming an agro-product price determination commission.

Speaking in the meeting of the House of Representatives today, they called for forming such commission allowing the farmers themselves to fix the price of agro-products that they produce. They also stressed that the farmers should be involved in the pricing.

Hridayesh Tripathi drew the attention of the government and the parliament to the need of forming the agro-product price determination commission.

Taking time from the Speaker, Tripathi said that the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development should immediately pay attention to address the problem of middle-persons fleecing the farmers and the consumers as mostly they were the ones who determined the price of agro-products and not the farmers. He said forming the commission has become imperative in such situation.

He also raised the issue of the difficulty the sugarcane farmers were facing getting the grants provided them by the government and wanted to know why the farmers were getting only 20 per cent of the grant.

Lawmaker Pushpa Bhusal said the State-2 government had usurped the 10 bigha land plot that had been purchased from the then Transport Corporation by the BP Park for constructing a park in the memory of the popular leader the late BP Koirala.

The State government took the land in the name of constructing a martyrs park in a bid to erase the history of BP Koirala, she alleged, calling on the federal government to take a prompt decision in this regard. RSS
