200 families get solar lamps on subsidy

Rukum / May 11: These days some 200 families of Sanibheri rural municipality-10 need to not depend on traditional means of fuel or kerosene for light as they have access to solar lamps.

Adaptation for Smallholders in Hilly Areas (ASHA) district coordination unit spent Rs 2.15 million, out of 2.63 million to provide solar plants to such a number of households at Timile, Chintu, Sarkimare, Ghanthana, Dandaarma, Dabrekhola, Lahaurdera and Bheritol.

The beneficiaries enjoyed the 76.48 per cent subsidy in the installation of solar plants at their home. According to ASHA district coordinator Bharati Poudel, the local users bore some 23 percent of the total cost required to install the plants.

Rural municipality chair Nar Bahadur Pun said the local Shivashakti Farmers’ Group facilitated in implementing the ASHA’s solar plants distribution project. According to ASHA district climate change expert Rebika Gurung, the distribution of solar panels is expected to be helpful in reduction of carbon emission, though at a very minimum level. RSS
