NHRC to hold conference on migrant workers’ rights in November

Kathmandu / July 21: National Human Rights Commission will hold an international conference titled “Protection of Rights of the Migrant Workers” in the second week of November in Kathmandu.

Issuing a press statement, NHRC Chairperson Anup Raj Sharma stated that the protection of rights of the migrant workers is currently a matter of global concern.

The conference will witness deliberations on the challenges and risks faced by Nepali migrant workers in their homes, transits and destination countries. Moreover, this conference will also focus on the malpractices seen in the recruitment process of the workers.

Representatives from the National Human Rights Commissions of 30 countries are expected to participate in the conference. Individuals from civil society, INGOs working in the field of migrant workers, Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI), Asia Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions-APF, UNDP, EU, ILO, and IOM will also attend the event.
