Govt has succeeded in maintaining peace and security: Home Minister
Kathmandu / July 23: Minister for Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa on Tuesday has claimed that his ministry has succeeded in maintaining peace, security and good governance in the country.
Minister Thapa also claimed that the home ministry has succeeded in taking under control the outlawed political outfit led by Netra Bikram Chand that once posed great threat to security.
Speaking at a press conference organized in the capital to review the activities carried out by the ministry over the last one year and make public its work plan for the current fiscal year, Thapa also said that police have not been able to arrest the murderers of Nirmala Panta due to overpoliticization yet.
On the occasion, Home Minister Thapa informed that the government has given top priority to the investigation into Nirmala rape and murder case.
According to him, though police completed 95 percent of the investigation into the Nirmala rape and murder case, they failed to arrest the perpetrators due to what he called “overpoliticization”.
Thapa called for all the stakeholders to assist the government in conducting the probe into Nirmala rape and murder case.
On a different note, Home Minister Thapa also said that the details of 1800 contractors charged with corruption have been sent to the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority(CIAA) for further legal process. He said that those contractors found guilty of corruption in construction projects will be liable to a severe punishment.
On the occasion, he also informed that the government has developed a proper mechanism to curb gold smuggling.
