ANNFSU Stages Sit-In Before Indian Embassy In Kathmandu

Kathmandu / Nov 8: The All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU), a student wing of ruling Nepal Communist Party, today launched a sit-in before the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu protesting the placement of Nepal’s territories, Kalapani, Limpiadhura and Lipulek in India’s new map.

Addressing a corner meet following the protest, ANNFSU coordinator Ain Mahar urged India not to encroach on Nepal’s territory and present itself as a friendly neighbour towards its neighbour. Likewise, ANNFSU co-coordinator Ranjit Tamang demanded corrections in India’s new map.

Prior to this, students led by the ANNFSU organised a protest rally that started from Amrit Science Campus and converged into the protest. The protestors also chanted slogans. As part of protest programmes, on Sunday, pressure would be created on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to resolve the issue through diplomatic efforts and on Monday, a memorandum would be submitted to the UN Office in Kathmandu, said student leader Sudesh Parajuli.

Earlier today, some student unions including Nepal Student Union launched various protest programmes against Nepal’s land encroachment by India. Similarly, Human Rights and Peace Society has showed its concerns about the issue and urged discussions at prime ministerial level to resolve it. “The placement of Nepal’s territories, Kalapani and Lipulek Pass, has drawn the concern of the Society. The Society urges Indian government to make corrections in its new map and show full respects towards Nepal’s dignity,” read a statement issued by the Society. RSS
