PM Oli urges India to recall its troops from Kalapani

Kathmandu / Nov 17: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Sunday urged India to recall its troops from Kalapani that belongs to Nepal.

Addressing the first meeting of the National Youth Association, the sister wing of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) in the capital, PM Oli said that the government is all committed to protecting every inch of Nepali territory. “The government is capable enough to safeguard the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty,” added he.

Amid questions being raised from multiple quarters for his silence on the matter, PM Oli maintained that the border has been encroached for several decades. He, however, added that the NCP-led government will make its efforts to retrieve its land very soon.

Oli said that the government will remove Indian border forces from the occupied Kalapani. “I request our neighbor to recall its troops from there,” he said.

Amid huge public outcry over India’s territorial occupation, he said that Nepal will not encroach upon a single inch of others and it will also not let even one inch of its territory to others. “The government is capable enough to remove foreign troops from its occupied territories,” he added.

He also expressed happiness for growing national unity on the issue of national interests in the country.

The prime minister’s statement comes two weeks after Indian unveiled its new political map that placed Nepali territory Kalapani inside Indian borders. Even though New Delhi has been claiming that Kalapani falls within Indian borders, historical facts suggest that the area belongs to Nepal. Indian border forces have been occupying the Nepal territory Kalapani after the 1962 India-China War.

Speaking further, PM Oli claimed that the government has been successful in building national unity in this regard.

According to Oli, Nepal’s voice is being heard in the international arena these days since the government has made its sincere efforts to defend the country’s national interests.
