Lalitpur Metropolis introduces separate bicycle lanes
Kathmandu / Nov 30: Lalitpur Metropolitan City has introduced separate bicycle lanes on some of the road sections in Lalitpur.
During a program held in Lalitpur on Saturday, the Lalitpur Metropolis informed that it has created dedicated bicycle lanes along Kupondol-Jawalakhel and Mangal Bazaar-Pulchowk road sections. The lanes will have 1.5- meters in width.
During the program, Lalitpur Metropolitan City Mayor Chiri Babu Maharajan stated that the initiation of making Kathmandu a bicycle-friendly city has begun.
The Metropolis has also a plan to develop the lanes enabling the riders to enter the Patan Area from all four directions.
The LMC has also proposed to create multiple cycle stands at several places where the rider can park their bicycle and the commuters and tourists could use them free of charge.
The city office has also forwarded its plan to introduce a mechanism, so that the cycle will not be misused.
The representatives of the Nepal Cycle Society, which has been lobbying with the municipal to make Lalitpur a cycle-friendly city, said Lalitrpur has shared their happiness that LMC would be the first cycle-friendly city in the country.
After the implementation of the project, people would gradually acknowledge the importance of commuting in the city by bicycles.
