HoR endorses Appropriation bill

Kathmandu / June 10: A session of the House of Representatives (HoR) today endorsed the Appropriation Bill-2077 BS. Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota presented the Bill before the meeting for a decision and it was endorsed by a majority. Prior to this, Finance Minister Dr Yubaraj Khatiwada tabled a proposal, seeking the passage of the Bill.

Speaker Sapkota informed the session about the endorsement of the Bill by a majority.

As per the constitutional provision, Finance Minister Dr Khatiwada had on May 28 presented the budget (government’s annual estimate for the fiscal year 2020/21) of Rs 1,474.64 billion before the Federal Parliament’s joint session.

Out of the total budget, government has allocated Rs 948.94 billion towards current expenditure and Rs 352.91 billion towards capital expenditure while and Rs 172.79 billion have been allocated for financing provision. The government has set a target of collecting revenue of Rs 889.62 billion and estimates to receive foreign grants and loans of Rs 60.52 billion and Rs 299.5 billion, respectively.

Oppositions’ lawmakers had registered 26 expenditure deduction proposals over the Appropriation Bill and the proposals were refused by a majority by the session.

The Lower House had spend three days beginning from June 5 to discuss about the Bill and line ministers responded to queries raised over several headings of the Bill on June 9 and 10.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today responded queries over headings concerning the Office of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, National Planning Commission’s Secretariat, Office of President and the Office of Vice President.
