COVID-19 update: tally stands at 20,332 with 246 new cases, 111 recovery

Kathmandu / Aug. 2: The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has confirmed 246 new cases of COVID-19 today.

In 8,861 Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) tests performed in the last 24 hours, as many as 246 persons were found with the virus infection, said Dr. Jageshwor Gautam, spokesperson of the ministry in the daily press briefing today.

The new cases were detected in Sunsari, Morang, Dhanusa, Chitwan, Mahottari, Sarlahi, Parsa, Bajhang, Doti, Kailali, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bardiya, Darchula, Gorkha, Rautahat, Sindhuli, Bhaktapur , Kaski, Baglung, Lamjung, Syangja, Tanahun, Nawalparasi (East) and Rupandehi.

Meanwhile, 111 COVID-19 patients receiving treatment in various health facilities across the nation were discharged in the last 24 hours after recovering from the virus infection. The recovery rate now stands at 71.08 per cent.

Currently, there are 5,672 active cases of COVID-19, and 10,934 people are in quarantine.

With this, the national COVID-19 tally has reached 20,332 including 14,603 cases of recovery and 57 death cases.

MoHP High Level Team Off To State 2 For Coordination To Contain COVID-19

The Ministry of Health and Population has mobilized a high level team under the leadership of Director General of the Department of Health for making necessary coordination to contain spread of infection of SARS-CoV-2 that causes COVID-19 in State 1.

State 2 has of late emerged as one of the worst affected states.

MoHP spokesperson Dr. Jageshwor Gautam informed in the daily press briefing on Sunday that a team led by Dr. Dipendra Raman Singh, DG of Department of Health was sent to State 2.

The team has already reached Birgunj of State 2 and the team will provide necessary instructions, assistance and coordination in cities and areas where number of infection is high in State 2, according to Dr. Gautam.

The Health Ministry spokesperson said that preparations were underway to send MoHP high level team in other affected States.

Of late, number of infections has been on the rise in an alarming way in Birgunj of State 2, Biratnagar of State 1 and some districts of Sudur Paschim State.
