COVID-19 update: 634 new cases including 216 in Kathmandu Valley; active cases soar to 12,621

Kathmandu / Aug. 22: The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has confirmed 634new cases of COVID-19 today.

Of the 12,519 Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) tests done in the last 24 hours, as many as 634 persons, 182 females and 452 males, were found with the virus infection, informed Dr. Jageshwor Gautam, spokesperson of the ministry in the daily press briefing today.

The new cases were detected in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Ilam, Jhapa, Bhojpur, Morang, Sankhuwasabha, Sunsari, Dhanusa, Parsa, Bara, Mahottari, Rautahat, Saptari, Sarlahi, Siraha, Kavre, Chitwan, Dolakha, Dhading, Nuwakot, Makwanpur, Sindhuli, Kaski, Tanahun, Nawalparasi (East), Baglung, Syangja, Kapilvastu, Palpa, Pyuthan, Banke, Bardiya, Rupandehi, Rolpa, Jumla, Salyan, Surkhet, Kailali, Dadeldhura and Doti.

Meanwhile, 136 COVID-19 patients receiving treatment at various health facilities across the nation were discharged in the last 24 hours after recovering from the virus infection. The recovery rate now stands at 59 per cent.

Currently, there are 12,621 active cases of COVID-19 of which, 8,705 are in institutional isolation and 3,916 are in home isolation. Some 11,658 persons, mostly those who had returned from abroad, are placed in quarantine.

Of the active COVID-19 patients, 135 are admitted to ICU and 12 are receiving treatment in ventilator facility.

With this, the national COVID-19 tally has reached 31,117 including 18,350 cases of recovery and 146 death cases.

Kathmandu Valley Records Highest Single-Day Tally With 216 New Cases Of COVID-19

The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has confirmed 216 new cases of COVID-19 in the Kathmandu Valley today. This is the highest single-day tally recorded in the Kathmandu Valley until now.

Of the 216 new cases, 160 cases were detected in Kathmandu, 50 cases were detected in Bhaktapur and six were detected in Lalitpur.
