COVID-19 update: 2,638 new cases, 2,174 recoveries, tally surges to 117,996

Kathmandu / Oct. 14: With 2,638 new cases of the novel coronavirus infection confirmed on Wednesday, the national COVID-19 caseload has surged to 117,996.

In 13,947 Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) tests done in the last 24 hours, as many as 2,638 persons were found to have been infected with SARS-CoV-2,” informed Dr. Jageshwor Gautam, spokesperson of the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) in the regular press briefing today.

Currently, there are 36,367 active cases of COVID-19 of which, 14,819 patients are receiving treatment in institutional isolations and 21,548 are in home isolation. Some 4,666 people are currently placed in quarantine centers across the nation.

Of the active patients, 305 are admitted to the ICU and 70 are receiving treatment with ventilator facility.

Meanwhile, 2,174 some COVID-19 patients, either receiving treatment at various health facilities or staying in home isolation, recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours. Nepal has now registered 80,954 cases of recoveries and the recovery rate is at 68.6 per cent.

Furthermore, 12 patients receiving treatment at various health facilities across the nation succumbed to the novel coronavirus infection in the last 24 hours. Nepal’s COVID-19 death toll has now reached 675.

1,403 new cases in Kathmandu Valley

The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) on Wednesday 1,403 confirmed new cases of COVID-19 in the Kathmandu Valley.

In 13,947 Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) tests done in the last 24 hours, as many as 1,403 persons were found with the novel coronavirus infection in the Valley itself, said Dr. Jageshwor Gautam, spokesperson of the ministry in the daily press briefing today.

Of the 1,403 new cases, 996 were detected in Kathmandu, 102 were found in Bhaktapur and 305 were recorded in Lalitpur.
