COVID-19 update: 403 new cases, 405 recoveries and six fatalities in 24 hours

Kathmandu / Jan. 14: With 403 new cases of the novel coronavirus confirmed on Thursday, the national COVID-19 tally has reached 266,546.

“In 5,032 Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) tests done in the last 24 hours, 403 persons were found infected with SARS-CoV-2,” informed Dr. Jageshwor Gautam, spokesperson of the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) during the regular press briefing.

Currently, there are 4,426 active cases of COVID-19 across the nation of which, 1,124 are in institutional isolation and the remaining are in home isolation. A total of 231 persons, mostly those who had returned from abroad, are placed in quarantine.

Of the patients receiving treatment in institutional isolation, 152 are admitted to the ICU while 33 are receiving treatment with the ventilator facility.

Meanwhile, 405 COVID-19 patients receiving treatment in institutional isolation or staying in home isolation recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours. Nepal has now recorded 260,177 cases of recoveries and the recovery rate stands at 97.6 per cent.

Moreover, six persons succumbed to the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours. With this, Nepal’s COVID-19 death toll has reached 1,943.

215 new cases recorded in Kathmandu Valley

The three districts of Kathmandu valley reported as many as 215 new cases of the coronavirus infection on Thursday.

Of the total 403 new cases in the country, Kathmandu district reported 189 infections while Lalitpur and Bhaktapur registered 23 and three infections respectively.

Currently, there are 2,332 active infections in Kathmandu, 287 in Lalitpur, and 92 in Bhaktapur. The total number of active cases throughout Nepal, as of today, is 4,426.

So far, 485 fatalities from Covid-19 have been reported in Kathmandu, 113 in Bhaktapur, and 152 in Lalitpur. The nationwide death-toll has advanced to 1,943 with six more Covid-related fatalities logged today.

Meanwhile, a total of 96,711 people have recovered from the infection in Kathmandu while 15,266 have recovered in Lalitpur and 8,880 in Bhaktapur.

Kathmandu is the only district with over 500 active cases in the country. On the contrary, Kalikot, Rukum West, Mugu, Bajura are the four districts with zero live infections, as of today.
