Nepal welcomed around 9,000 foreign tourists in January

Kathmandu / Feb 2: Nepal welcomed 8,874 foreign tourists in January, the largest number of foreign visitors in a month since the government imposed a nationwide lockdown on March 24.

According to the records of the Department of Immigration (DoI), visitors from 121 countries entered Nepal during the period. Of the total number, 4,028 were Indian tourists and 1,877 were Chinese. Similarly, 874 visitors were from the US, followed by 136 from the United Kingdom and 113 from Turkey.

The resumption of Nepal-India flights about a month ago and the increase in COVID-19 vaccination drive globally has been attributed to an increasing inflow of foreign tourists in Nepal.

According to the DoI, a total of 56,141 Nepalis returned to their home country while 47,238 Nepalis went abroad last month.
