96 new cases of COVID-19 and 111 recoveries in 24 hours

Kathmandu / Feb. 18: The Ministry of Health and Population on Thursday confirmed 96 new cases of COVID-19, taking the nation’s novel coronavirus tally to 273,166.

“In 3,541 Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) tests done in the last 24 hours, 96 persons were found infected with SARS-CoV-2,” informed the Ministry of Health and Population in its daily update.

Of the 96 new infections, 42 were recorded in the Kathmandu Valley.

Currently, there are 1,603 active cases of COVID-19 across the nation of which, 1,052 patients are receiving treatment in institutional isolation while the remaining are placed in home isolation. Likewise, a total of 71 people, mostly those who had returned from abroad are placed in quarantine across the nation.

Of the active patients, 61 are admitted to the ICU and 13 are receiving treatment in ventilator facility.

Meanwhile, 111 COVID-19 patients receiving treatment in institutional isolation or staying in home isolation recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours. Nepal has now recorded 269,505 cases of recovery and the recovery rate is at 98.7 per cent.

Moreover, three persons succumbed to the virus infection in the last 24 hours, taking the nation’s COVID-19 death toll to 2,058.
