53 new cases of COVID-19 and 77 recoveries in 24 hours

Kathmandu / Mar. 14: The Ministry of Health and Population on Sunday confirmed 53 new cases of COVID-19, taking the nation’s novel coronavirus tally to 275,231.

“In 2,615 Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) tests done in the last 24 hours, 53 persons were found infected with SARS-CoV-2,” informed Dr. Jageshwor Gautam, spokesperson at the Ministry of Health and Population in the regular press briefing.

Of the new infections, 22 including one in Bhaktapur, two in Lalitpur and 19 in Kathmandu were recorded in Kathmandu valley.

Currently, there are 891 active cases of COVID-19 of which, 182 patients are receiving treatment in various institutional isolations and 667 are placed in home isolation. Likewise, a total of 47 people, mostly those who had returned from abroad are placed in quarantine across the nation.

Meanwhile, 77 COVID-19 patients receiving treatment in institutional isolation or staying in home isolation recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours. Nepal has now recorded 271,326 cases of recovery and the recovery rate is at 98.6 per cent.

Moreover, no fatality related to COVID-19 was confirmed in Nepal in the last 24 hours. Currently, the COVID-19 death toll is at 3,014.
