34 traffic police personnel felicitated for not accepting bribes

Kathmandu / April 1: The Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD) has felicitated as many as 34 traffic police personnel for honestly carrying out their duties without being lured by any economic advantage.

Amid a special function in the capital on Thursday, the MTPD rewarded them for their honest performance to implement the principle of ‘zero tolerance against bribery’ as adopted by Nepal Police. According to the Division, today’s felicitation will help them for their promotion in the days ahead. Seven of them even got cash prizes.

“We have been frequently briefing the police personnel in the field not to be tempted by monetary offerings made by those violating traffic rules and regulations as per the principle adopted by our organization,” said Janak Bhattarai, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), who is also the chief of the Division. He further added that 136 drivers and riders were earlier held and taken action for their attempt to bribe the traffic police personnel after breaching traffic rules.

According to Bhattarai, today’s felicitation program aims at promoting integrity and sense of responsibility among the traffic police personnel so that it may help enhance the image of the organization.
