Sharmila Pathak / Kathmandu, Aug 13: Reconstruction of 27 heritage monuments in Hanumandhoka Durbar Square has been completed to date.
The Hanumandhoka Durbar square is one of the most important heritage sites in the country but remained adversely affected by the 2015 Gorkha earthquake.
Although the reconstruction of heritages and monuments is going ahead, it is yet to be materialized in full swing.
According to Durbar Square Management Office, of total damaged 58 heritage structures including temples and monuments in the 2015 Gorkha Earthquake at the Hanumandhoka area, 21 are under construction so far.
The office chief Sandip Khanal told RSS that of the other 70 heritages in the World Heritage Site, 14 were not affected by the earthquake. He further added that the reconstruction bid of the other 21 monuments was yet to begin as they could not be reconstructed before the completion of other under-construction projects as they are located in between them.
Khanal further shared that Seto Bhawan (White Building), Pharas Khana, the bedroom of Prithvi Narayan Shah, Jaishi Deval and Dash Avatar reconstruction bids will be completed by three months as Hanuman Dhoka Development Committee is initiating the reconstruction.
Similarly, another important heritage Kashthamandap will be completed within three months. The office has further shared that Agamchhe Building is also being constructed by JICA. Likewise, Jagannath and Gopinath Temple are being constructed under the Bagmati Province Infrastructure Development Programme.
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is initiating to reconstruct Majudeg, Shivaparvati Temple and Narayan Temple and their reconstruction is gradually in progress. The Nautale Durbar (nine-storey building) is being reconstructed by China government and 70 per cent work is almost completed.
Though the reconstruction bid was contracted to complete by 2022, it has been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Likewise, the Gaddi Baithak is being reconstructed with the support of the USA. RSS
