Kathmandu / Oct 9: The Bagmati Province Sports Development Council is going to organize the provincial sports competition from mid-December.

The competition will be held from mid-December to mid-January. The decision was taken at a council meeting chaired by Social Development Minister of Bagmati, Bijay Subedi. A total cost estimate of Rs. 65.40 million has been approved for the competition by demanding Rs. 20 million from the Provincial Sports Development Council and an additional Rs. 45.40 million from the provincial government.

“The competition, which will be held in three phases at local, district and province levels, will include football, volleyball, cricket, athletics, taekwondo, karate, boxing and badminton,” said Surya Lal Bhandari, member secretary of the council. The local units in the province will have to form a team through competition or selection and send participants for the district competition. Each district will receive a grant of Rs. 800,000 for the district competition. Considering the Ninth National Sports Competition scheduled from next March, the province is preparing to complete the provincial sports event before the national competition.

Both men’s and women’s teams will participate in the competition. However, in cricket, only the men’s team will participate. Bhandari said that the month-long provincial sports competition will be organized in all the 13 districts of the province.
