Urban People doubts inflection may go up: NRB Survey

Ajay Chhetri / Kathmandu, Nov. 22: The Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) survey has shown that 87.1 per cent of the respondents are expecting inflation in the next quarter.

According to the Inflation Expectations Survey (IES) of the first quarter, 96.3 per cent of the respondents have expected price levels to increase over the next year.

The survey has taken the responses from 510 urban individuals from the 10 market areas of the seven cities.

The survey revealed that respondents from Birgunj expect mean inflation of 12.5 per cent and the respondents from Nepalgunj expect a 5.9 per cent inflation in the next three months.

Similarly, the urban individuals of Birgunj expect mean inflation of 13.4 per cent and Nepalgunj expect 5.9 per cent for the next one year.

The survey showed that mean and median inflation expectations for the current period remained at 9.4 per cent and 8 per cent respectively.

Similarly, mean and median inflation expectations for the next three months remained at 9.6 per cent and 9 per cent respectively. And, mean and median inflation expectations for one year ahead remained at 10.3 per cent and 9 per cent respectively.

According to the spokesperson of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), Dev Kumar Dhakal, the survey will be helpful for forecasting the inflation scenario of the urban area. He said that it will be useful for the NRB, bank and financial institutions, traders and the general public for planning and foreseeing the long-term perspective.
