PM Deuba calls All-Party Meeting to discuss parliament obstruction and MCC

Kathmandu / Dec. 18: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has called an all-party meeting.

According to his chief personal secretary Bhanu Deuba, Prime Minister Deuba has called an all-party meeting to discuss the impasse in the federal parliament.

The meeting will be held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar on Sunday at 4 o’clock.

He said that the top leaders of the parties represented in the parliament were invited to the meeting.

Sources said the meeting will dwell on lifting ongoing obstruction in parliament by lawmakers belonging to the main opposition party, CPN-UML, and endorsing Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact agreement through parliament.

Although the Nepali Congress (NC)-led government is planning to endorse the MCC compact agreement through parliament at the earliest possible date, parliament has been able to function properly due to the UML’s obstruction. Also, the ruling CPN (Maoist Center) and CPN (Unified Socialist) have stood against endorsing the MCC agreement in its current form.

Prime Minister Deuba had earlier discussed the issue with Chairman of the ruling CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’.

The main opposition party, the CPN (UML), has been obstructing the parliament for a long time.
