Three Parties agree to name Province 2 as Madhesh Province

Dhirendra Prasad Shah / Janakpur, Dec. 23: Three parties – Janata Samajwadi party, CPN (Maoist Center) and Loktantrik Samajwadi Party- have come to a common ground with regard to naming Province 2 as the Madhesh Province.

The uniform voice of the three parties was heard in the second meeting of the eighth session of the Province 2 Assembly on Thursday.

They put forth the proposal in the meeting. JSP leader Shailendra Kumar Yadav, CPN (Maoist Center) leader and provincial minister for Internal Affairs and Communications Bharat Prasad Sah put forth the proposal that the province be named as Madhesh province in the assembly meeting while Rani Kumari Tiwari, a provincial assembly member from the opposition party LSP, supported the proposal.

Nepali Congress, however, did not come up with a single voice as its lawmakers had different proposals over the name. Shiva Chandra Chaudhari, a provincial assembly member from the NC, said the province should be named as Mithila-Bhojpura whereas another lawmaker from the same party, Rajeshwor Prasad Sah, proposed that the province should be named as Madhya-Madhesh. A provincial lawmaker from CPN (Unified Socialist) Pramod Kumar Yadav put forth the proposal that the province should be named as Janaki.

Most of the lawmakers representing different political parties put forth the views that the provincial capital should be kept in Janakpurdham whereas NC lawmaker Rajeshwar Sah voiced that Birgunj should be named as the provincial capital.
