Water from Melamchi to be distributed in valley from Sunday

Kathmandu / April 23: The supply of drinking water from Melamchi River is being resumed from Sunday after the Melamchi Water Supply Project (MWSP) filled the reservoir in Sundarijal on Friday.

This is the first time that the residents of the Kathmandu Vallée will be receiving water supply from the  MWSP after the flood in Melamchi River damaged the project site in the second week of June last year. 

According to the MWSP, the water will be distributed to residents in Kathmandu Vallée on Sunday morning after completing the treatment of water collected in Sundarijal by Saturday evening.

The authorities have targeted to distribute 270 million liters of water on a daily basis following the resumption of the MWSP. Of the amount, 100 million liters will be supplied through the distribution mechanism of the Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL) while the rest of 170 million liters will be supplied from MWSP. 

On Sunday, the households connected to the water pipeline system in all the locations inside the Ring Road area will receive the water supplied jointly by the MWSP and the KUKL. Similarly, the water is supplied also to the locals of Kirtipur and Madhyapur, Bhaktapur on Sunday.
