64.4 pc industries rely on generators to meet energy demand due to disruption in electricity supply: CNI

Kathmandu / June 19: More than a half of the manufacturing industries operating in the country have still been relying on generators fed electricity supply to meet their demand, showed a survey conducted recently. This comes amid complaints from the government authorities that electricity generated in the country was going in a waste due to lack of adequate domestic consumption.

A survey conducted by the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI), showed that 64.4 percent of the manufacturing units have been using generators due to disruption on electricity supply through the main grid. Similarly, the industries have been operating with utilizing 71 percent of their production capacity. “There is an improvement in utilization of their total capacity by the industries,” reads the study report unveiled by the CNI.

In the second quarter of the current fiscal year, the industries were able to increase their income by 27.1 percent compared to the same period of 2020/21. Likewise, 65.5 percent of industries are found ready to increase their investment in production plants.
