Goat sale for Dashain picks momentum

Sarlahi / Sept. 21: As the great festival of Dashain approaches, sale of goats has started in Sarlahi. Farmers have started bringing goats to the market from villages for sale.

Farmers collected expenses to celebrate festivals like Dashain and Tihar by selling the goats reared throughout the year.

Bal Bahadur Thing, a farmer of Lalbandi Municipality-13, Narayan Danda, said that he has been managing the expenses of Dashain every year by selling goats.

“Expenses for purchasing spices and clothes to celebrate the festival will be managed by selling goats. Farmers from the villages have already started supplying goats to the market for sale,” he said.

The buy and sale of goats has increased significantly on the day of farmers’ market in Lalbandi, Hariwan, Bayalbas, Barhathwa of the district. Traders themselves visit the farmers’ houses to buy goats.

Goat-rearing is promoted commercially in the North Chure area of Sarlahi. Farmers earn ranging from around Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 100,000 during Dashain by selling goats.

Hari Thapa, a goat trader, said that he has started selling the goats bought from farmers in the villages.

“We ourselves go to villages and buy goats from the farmers’ houses, the farmers purchase essential goods with the money received from the sale of goats,” said Thapa.

According to the traders, there is a good business of goats till the Maha Ashtami day of Dashain.
