FPTP candidates for federal, provincial polls register nominations across country

Kathmandu / Oct. 09: Candidates from various political parties as well as independent aspirants are filing their candidacy under the first-past-the-post (FPTP) category as the Election Commission slated candidacy nominations for Sunday.

Candidates are filing their nominations for the 165 seats of the House of Representatives and 330 of the provincial assemblies.

Top leaders of political parties are also registering their nominations for the upcoming polls.

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, also the President of the Nepali Congress, filed his nomination from Dadeldhura. Deuba filed his nomination through his wife Arzoo Deuba. This is the seventh time Deuba is contesting elections from Dadeldhura.

CPN-UML chair KP Sharma Oli has registered his nomination for the polls from Jhapa-3 while CPN (Unified Socialist) chair Madhav Kumar Nepal has filed his nomination from Rautahat-1.

CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal filed his nomination from Gorkha-3. Former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai, who won elections in Gorkha in previous elections since 2008, had accompanied Dahal. Bhattarai has announced not to contest election this time.

Rastriya Prajtantra Party Chair Rajendra Lingden registered his nomination in Jhapa-3, CPN-UML Senior Vice Chair Ishwar Pokharel filed his candidacy in Kathmandu-5 and Vice-chair Bishnu Paudel filed in Rupandehi-2.

Former speaker Onsari Gharti of CPN (Maoist Center) is registering her candidacy at Kathmandu constituency no -2.

Independent candidate Pukar Bam registered his nomination in Kathmandu-1.

Nepali Congress general secretary Gagan Thapa also filed his candidacy from Kathmandu-4.

Similarly, Janata Samajbadi Party Chairman Upendra Yadav registered his candidacy at Saptari constituency-2.

Candidates need to go to the office of the returning officer in their respective constituency with the required documents to file their nominations.

The candidates unable to be present physically can file their nomination through assignees.

The general elections are slated for November 20.
