Vitamin A capsules, deworming tablets to be administered to children on October 19 and 20
Kathmandu / Oct. 11: The government has prepared to give vitamin ‘A’ capsules and deworming tablets to children under five years of age.
The Family Welfare Division under the Department of Health Services has announced that vitamin A capsules and de-worming tablets will be distributed on October 19 and October 20.
Vitamin A capsules will be given to children aged six to 59 months through the Vitamin A program. Similarly, children between one and five years of age will be given deworming tablets, according to the department.
During the two-day campaign, about 2.7 million children aged six to 59 months will be given vitamin A and 2.3 million children will be given deworming medication, the department said.
To reduce the risk of health complications and malnutrition in children from six months to 59 months, the government has been running the Vitamin A program since 2050 BS. The deworming tablets have been distributed since 2056 BS.
In the ‘National Vitamin A’ program, children are provided medications through 52,000 health volunteers across the country.
The department has requested the parents to visit the nearest health center in their vicinity and give their children vitamin A and deworming medicine.
Director of the department Dr Bibek Kumar Lal has also requested to coordinate with the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration for support and promotion of the program.
The department has also informed the provincial health directorate, 77 districts and 753 municipalities about the campaign.
