KMC inks agreement with Beyond Pvt Limited to promote digital learning in public schools

Kathmandu / Nov 5: Kathmandu Metropolitan City has entered into an agreement to promote digital teaching and learning activities within Kathmandu metropolis.

An agreement was signed between Kathmandu Metropolis and Digital and Beyond Pvt Ltd on Friday to develop digital teaching methods in public schools.

Head of Education Department Ram Prasad Subedi, and Sagun Dhungana, Chief Executive Officer of Beyond, signed the agreement at national city hall in the presence of Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol, Chief Administrative Officer of Metropolis Basant Adhikari and Education Advisor Reshu Aryal. Beyond is Google’s partner organization in Nepal and South Asia.

According to the agreement reached for the next two years, Beyond will provide free support services including facilities, operation and management training for educational activities from Google to the metropolis. Under this, there will be work to develop the digital capacity of teachers for teaching and learning in public schools, teaching students, and making teaching and learning management technology-friendly.

By forming a code club, the students from class 2 to class 12 will be placed in the target age group and the related program will be conducted through Google Workplace for Education. In this, one representative will be trained in each school to run the web site and manage the content.

While working in this way, Beyond will ensure cyber security, issue mail under Google’s Children’s Online Privacy Protection Rules.

Digital access to 50,000 students at once

The goal of the agreement is to provide access to digital literacy to 50,000 students studying in public schools in Kathmandu metropolis.

After the agreement, Reshu Aryal, education consultant of the metropolis, said that education cannot be made competitive without digital literacy and said that without a competitive educational level, the qualifications of the required manpower will not reach the market. According to the Chief Executive Officer of Beyond, Beyond now has a network of 6,500 teachers.
