Govt honors highest tax paying companies and individuals for the FY 2021/22

Kathmandu / Nov 23: Surya Nepal Private Limited on Wednesday was honored as the highest taxpayer company for the last fiscal year.

Amid a program organized by the Inland Revenue Department to mark the National Tax Day 2022, Finance Secretary Krishna Hari Pushkar honored Surya Nepal in the genre. The government honored individuals and organizations under 15 categories of taxes.

During fiscal year 2021/22, Surya Nepal paid Rs 10.72 billion in taxes, up from Rs 9.34 billion in the previous fiscal year. The company sells cigarettes, matchboxes, incense sticks and confectionaries.

Similarly, Vijaya Kumar Shah received recognition as the largest tax paying person in the last fiscal year. Shah leads Jawalakhel Group of Industries, which incorporates companies like Jawalakhel Distillery, Himalayan Distillery, Raj Brewery, Asian Distillery and Vijay Distillery.

Nepal Telecom bagged the award of the largest income taxpayer. Shiva Shakti Ghee and Rajesh Metal Crafts among export-based companies and OBC Feeds and Food in agriculture also received the honors for being the highest taxpayers in their respective categories. Chhimek Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha from cooperative group, Nabil Bank from banking sector and IME Remittance from remittance group were also among the awardees.
