International Migrants Day: Migrant workers felicitated

Jay Krishna Yadav / Inaruwa, Dec. 18: Migrants workers have been felicitated organizing a programme on the occasion of International Migrants Day her today.

Some five youths who returned home from migrant workers abroad and started their own businesses have been honoured amidst a programme.

The programme also featured interaction among the stakeholders in Inaruwa on issues of security, respect, wage certainty of the migrant workers, and building of a society without discrimination.

Those felicitated are Mamata Mote of Dharan, Munna Gupta, Dilip Kumar Pandit and Ashok Kunwar of Inaruwa and Bechan Yadav of Bhokraha.

Dhiraj Bhattarai, coordinator of the Sami programme, informed that the former migrant workers were felicitated for their role models in generating income at home by using skills they learnt abroad as worker.

Safer Migration (SaMi) Program is a bilateral initiative between the Government of Nepal and the Government of Switzerland. It is implemented by the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security and 156 participating local governments.
