President Bhandari appoints Dahal as new PM, swearing-in on Monday
Kathmandu / Dec 25: Chairperson of CPN – Maoist Center Pushpa Kamal Dahal has been appointed the Prime Minister of the new post-election government.
President Bidya Devi Bhandari today appointed him as the PM as per Article 76 (2) of the constitution of Nepal, after receiving Dahal’s claim to the seat, backed by as many as 169 Members of the House of Representatives.
This is Dahal’s third stint as the country’s PM.
President Bhandari will administer oath of office and secrecy to Dahal amid an official ceremony at Shital Niwas, tomorrow.
As many as seven old and new parties – CPN-UML, CPN (Maoist Center), Rastriya Swatantra Party, Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Janata Samajwadi Party, Janamat Party and Nagarik Unmukti Party – along with 166 lawmakers have backed Dahal’s claim to the post. Likewise, three independent Members of Parliament too have stood on Dahal’s side.
