SC upholds Patan High Court’s decision to bar cricketer Lamichhane from traveling abroad

Kathmandu / Feb 24: The Supreme Court (SC) has upheld the Patan High Court’s decision to prohibit rape-accused cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane from traveling abroad along with the national team for cricket matches.

As a result, Lamichhane has been excluded from the Nepali cricket team which is preparing to visit the UAE to play the ICC Cricket World Cup League Two matches in the Gulf country. The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has included Pratish GC in place of Lamichhane in the list of players going to the UAE.

The case of Sandeep Lamichhane, who is accused of raping a minor, is sub judice at the district court, Kathmandu. After the High Court Patan released him on a bail of Rs 2 million, CAN included him in the team for the ICC World Cup League 2 matches against Scotland and Namibia at home.

Earlier, while releasing Lamichhane on bail, the Patan High Court had prohibited Lamichhane from going abroad.
