FinMin Mahat meets delegation led by European Union envoy Deprez

Kathmandu / April 7: Finance Minister Dr Prakasharan Mahat met with a European Union delegation led by Ambassador Nona Deprez on Friday.

In the meeting at the Ministry of Finance, the review of the assistance received from the European Union and further assistance to Nepal was discussed.

The European Union is providing support in the areas of quality education, climate change and renewable energy.

Finance Minister Mahat said the European Reconstruction Bank is willing to work in Nepal. Since the European Union’s support is important for Nepal, the discussion focused on Nepal’s desire to develop the tourism sector by building energy and physical infrastructure.

Earlier on Thursday, Finance Minister Mahat and Teresa Daban Sanchez, resident representative of International Monetary Fund (IMF) Nepal Asia Pacific Department, as well as Babacar Sedikh Faye, resident representative of International Finance Corporation (IFC) under the World Bank, had a meeting at the Ministry of Finance.

Finance Minister Dr Mahat expressed his belief that the cooperation with IMF and IFC in strengthening the financial sector of Nepal has been going on since the past and will be able to proceed more strongly in the future.

Similarly, the representatives of IMF and IFC expressed their commitment that they are ready to provide more support in strengthening the financial sector of Nepal, according to the Finance Minister’s Secretariat.
