KMC prohibits construction of physical structures on Lalita Niwas land

Kathmandu / July 3: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has restricted building any physical structure on Lalita Niwas land. While Nepal Police have arrested various people and continued their investigation into the Lalita Niwas land grab scam, the KMC has decided against allowing the construction of any structure on Lalita Niwas land.

The KMC Police team reached Lalita Niwas in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-4 on Sunday afternoon and gave instructions to remove the unauthorized physical structures within two days. Also, by posting notices in the area, the KMC has asked all those concerned to remove the structures either already built or being built without the permission of the metropolis.

According to Section 39 of the Local Government Operation Act, 2074, if a structure is built in the mentioned area contrary to the directives of the Kathmandu metropolis, such building structure will be demolished and the expenses incurred for the demolition will be recovered from the related landlords as government debt.

Meanwhile, the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has arrested the then ward secretary Shivaji Bhattarai, and Surveyor Ghaman Kumar Karki and one of the fake tenants of the Lalita Niwas land, Baburam Maharjan. They were arrested from Kathmandu on Sunday afternoon.

Earlier, the police arrested five people including the owner of Bhatbhateni supermarket, Min Bahadur Gurung, and former Election Commissioner Sudhir Shah. They are currently in police custody for further investigation.
