DoA prepares draft for listing Tilaurakot in the list of World Heritage Site

Kathmandu / Oct 9: The Department of Archeology has prepared a draft to enlist the Tilaurakot area of Kapilvastu on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Site.

After the excavation of the Tilaurakot area, which is important from the view of history, culture, archeology and religion, the draft document with evidences obtained has been submitted to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), said Ram Bahadur Kunwar, the department’s spokesperson.

After studying the draft submitted last week, the UNESCO will suggest correcting and sending it back, he said. Based on the UNESCO suggestion, the department is preparing to submit the final document in four months.

So far, four cultural and natural heritages of Nepal have been listed in the World Heritage Site. The Kathmandu Valley and Lumbini are included in the World Heritage Site as cultural heritages. All three cities of the Valley —Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur— have been included in the World Heritage Site, said Kunwar.

Similarly, Sagarmatha region and the Chitwan National Park have been listed in the World Heritage Site as natural heritages.
