20 houses damaged by earthquake in Dhading; 4 aftershocks above magnitude 4 in Dhading
Kathmandu / Oct 22: Twenty houses were damaged and 75 more have developed cracks at Kumaltari, Jwalamukhi Rural Municipality of Dhading due to the earthquake that occurred on Sunday morning.
Former ward chair Krishna Prasad Kapri said more information on the damage caused by the tremor is expected.
A local Rajesh Adhikari said the people ran out of their homes as aftershocks measuring more than 4 on the Richter scale were felt frequently.
Information Officer at the District Police Office, Deputy Superintendent of Police Santulal Prasad Jaiswar said the collection of details of the houses which have developed cracks is in progress.
An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale and with its epicentre at Khari had jolted Dhading and surrounding districts this morning.
4 aftershocks above magnitude 4 in Dhading
A series of aftershocks originating from Dhading have been reported, following an initial 6.1 magnitude earthquake that struck at 7:39AM. The National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center has recorded three aftershocks with a magnitude greater than 4.
According to the center, the first aftershock measured 4.2 in magnitude and occurred at 8:08 AM, followed by a 4.3 magnitude aftershock at 8:28 AM, another measuring 4.1 at 8:59 AM, and a final one with a magnitude of 4.4 at 4:00 PM.
The morning earthquake resulted in damage to the homes of 18 families in Dhading and was felt in the Kathmandu Valley and surrounding areas.
