DPM Lamichhane for amending laws related to disaster management
Kathmandu / June 3: Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane has said that no one should delay in disaster management.
Existing laws cannot be blamed for stating thatsaving the lives of citizens during disaster has become complicated.
During the meeting of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Executive Committee held at the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) on Monday, DPM Lamichhane stressed that activities related to disaster management should not be stopped saying rules, laws, procedures have not delegated authority to work on the urgent matter.
Requesting to inform him if such laws and procedures have created hurdles, he expressed commitment that the government would remove legal and procedural complexities.
The Home Minister directed the bodies concerned to remove complexities related to disaster management before this year’s monsoon season, explaining that there is no other important thing than saving the lives of citizens.
He underscored the need of imparting necessary training for journalists and volunteers as it would also be risk for them while going to risk area.
Similarly, Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration, Bhanu Bhakta Joshi, expressed commitment to provide full support from the ministry during disaster management related works.
Likewise, Minister for Health and Population, Pradeep Yadav, said that the ministry would work on health-related preparedness in coordination with the Home Minister.
The meeting chaired by the Home Minister passed the Monsoon Preparedness and Response National Action Plan-2081 with amendments. RSS
