710 MW of electricity added to national grid in 2078 BS

Kathmandu / April 13: Nepal produced an additional 710 MW of hydroelectricity in the Nepali year 2078 (mid-April 2021 to mid-April 2022) that ended on Wednesday.

According to Nepal Électricité Authority (NEA), the aforementioned amount of electricity was produced by 20 hydropower projects. With the additional electricity added to the national grid, the country’s capacity to supply electricity has reached 2,150 MW. Of the amount, the private sector’s contribution is 1,452 MW.

During the period, 456 MW Upper Tamakoshi Hydroelectric Project came online while Likhu-IV Hydroelectric Project also started producing 52.4 MW of electricity. Likhu Khola-A project with a production capacity of 24.2 MW of electricity also started its operation.

Similarly, the country received 20 MW of electricity from Lower Modi Khola Hydropower Project, 11 MW from Khare Khola, 25 MW from Singati Khola and 22.2 MW of electricity from Upper Chaku Khola-A projects over the period. Similarly, 11 MW of electricity produced by solar power plants and sugar factories was also added to the national grid in the past one year.
