EC warns for not violating election code of conduct; appoints monitoring officers
Kathmandu / Oct 13: The Election Commission has said the violation of election code of conduct issued for candidates of House of Representatives (HoR) and Provincial Assembly warrants punishment.
During a meeting of the central monitoring committee of the EC on Thursday, Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya directed the monitoring committees at the central and district offices and monitoring officers not to hesitate to take action against those found in violation of the election code of conduct.
Thapaliya asked the officials to take this issue seriously and take action by seeking clarification promptly.
On the occasion, committee coordinator and Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari pledged to strictly implement the election code of conduct adding that the issue of violation of the election code of conduct was intolerable.
It is stated that the government officials, university teachers, schoolteachers and other officials should abide by the election code of conduct and the chiefs of concerned offices are directed to immediately take departmental actions if the officials were engaged in violation of election code of conduct. EC appoints monitoring officers in districts
The Election Commission (EC) has appointed the district code of conduct monitoring officers in view of the elections to the House of Representatives and the Province Assembly. The voting for the twin elections is taking place on November 20 in a single phase.
Chiefs of the District Treasury Controller Offices have been designated as the monitoring officers in the respective districts. The appointment was made in accordance with Clause 32 of the election code of conduct.
According to EC Spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Poudel, the district election code of conduct monitoring officers have been instructed to make sure that government employees, teachers and any person responsible for abiding by the election code of conduct will do it. In case of a violation of the code of conduct, monitoring officers are authorised to take action.
The district election code of conduct monitoring committee is coordinated by the chief election officer while at the central level, the central code of conduct monitoring committee is headed by the election commissioner. (RSS)
