Election education song removed from social media after criticism

Kathmandu / Oct 23: The Election Commission (EC) has removed the song prepared for election education from social media within less than 24 hours after the song was released. The EC has said that the song has been removed after widespread criticism on social media regarding the quality of the lyrics of ‘Ghinghinghin Tang’.

The EC’s official page and Twitter handle also issued a notice about the removal of the song. “Respecting the suggestions given by social media users, we have removed the previously posted election education video content for modification. The Election Commission apologizes for the inconvenience caused to social media users,” reads the notice.

The song was prepared in the voice of model and former radio personality Hem Subedi and his wife Akriti Subedi with the investment of Election Commission. The one minute and 16 seconds song was released by the commission on Friday through social media. After the song was posted on social media, there was a lot of criticism about the quality of the song. Most of the commentators criticized the poor quality of the song, which was produced from public tax. Such commentators accused the officials of the EC of preparing low-quality songs due to the greed of commission.

The commission removed the song within 24 hours after the criticism started. Criticism of the EC has not stopped even after the song was removed from social media. Critics have said that an investigation should be carried out and action should be taken against the employees and officials concerned.

“The common people are made to pay a fine when they make a mistake. Whoever is guilty in this whole episode should be prosecuted like the common people. This is not done by apologizing on social media,” Jitendra Mandal wrote in the EC’s post. According to EC sources, thousands of rupees was spent to prepare this song.
