Ministry urges people to stay safe from cold
Kathmandu / Dec. 26: The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has urged people to avoid the risk of cold wave and snowfall. Dr. Samir Kumar Adhikari, Deputy Spokesperson for the MoHP, said that the cold wave and snowfall along with the cold have affected the normal life across the nation.
Kathmandu recorded the coldest day of the year on Sunday. According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the minimum temperature was recorded at 4.5 degrees Celsius on that day.
The MoHP has urged all to wear thick and warm clothes covering all parts of the body, to warm the room and to make arrangements of opening ventilators for adequate air to avoid the cold.
Children, senior citizens, pregnant women and chronic patients should be protected from cold wave and snowfall.
Similarly, the ministry has urged the new mothers to breastfeed their children regularly, consume plenty of hot and nutritious liquids and not to smoke and drink alcohol.Cold wave and cold cause heart disease, heart attack, lung and
respiratory problems, pneumonia, fever, diarrhoea, asthma, cold and difficulty in breathing in children and senior citizens. The MoHP has requested people to contact the nearest health institution immediately in case of such problems and not to sleep in the bedroom with fire, heater, muckle, coal and briquette, in a closed room where there is not sufficient air.
